Our regions road racing is in a serious position folks! We are getting to a stage where our road calendar is in serious trouble. The last 5 or so events have been seriously close to the wire for getting enough volunteers and officials (who are also volunteers!) to enable the event to run. This is league and non league events.
here's our view on the situation

Unfortunately the Brenchley road race due to be held on Sunday 3rd July has been cancelled.
The region has been struggling with AMS cover for a while and this race is still 9 roles short (all of them).
So we've taken the decision now to cancel the race, rather than hang till the last minute and let everyone down.

Due to very low entries , we are not going to run the 2 day stage race format next weekend at Cyclopark, there will be a 3rd cat 1 hour circuit race on the Saturday (28th) at 15:15 and a 1 hour 4th cat race at 16:30. It will change shortly on the BC site, but you can enter on riderhq now. 3rd cat race entry link: https://www.riderhq.com/.../kent.../entries/h7omphy9/3rds 4th cat race entry link: https://www.riderhq.com/.../entries/0u164zwg/4th-category

Unfortunately this weekends Benenden 2 day has had to be cancelled at the last minute.
After struggling with roadwork issues all week, we thought we were only when we did Friday mornings course check. Unfortunately, the ongoing emergency SGN works in Benenden meant the road being dug up Friday afternoon and 4 way traffic lights being installed, meaning the race was just not possible.

Latest news from the League
10/05/2022
With the current trend for entries being extremely low, we've decided to merge Sundays races at Laughton into one. The there will now just be one race at 09.30 for 2nd/3rds & Juniors. I've already emailed riders from the PM race, but if you don't want to race the new format, please let me know and I can either refund you or move you to another league event (or you can do this yourself on the riderhq site). Hope those riding understand, that in the current situation of the massive pull we have on our volunteer base, that taking the decision early will allow them to plan something for there afternoon. And obviously a race with 20 riders does no one any good.

Important Information regarding Timing Chips for 2022:
Both leagues will be using MyLaps transponders in all future races. This will work in the following way:
· When a rider affiliates to the league, they will be given to option (through a drop-down box) to purchase a transponder for the season. The cost of the transponder is £19.00 + £20.00 annual subscription.
· The transponder is owned by the rider, meaning for future seasons, annual subscription cost is all you have to pay. (You can also use your Mylaps transponder in any other events using the MyLaps system).
· If a rider chooses not to purchase a transponder, they can hire a transponder for each individual race they compete in at a cost of £3.00 per race.
· Any lost transponders will be the riders responsibility and another one will have to be purchased.
· Transponders are not transferable between riders.
· Every rider in the race must use a transponder.
· Affiliated riders will also be given a race number for the year (two body numbers)

Organising a bike race through either Surrey League or Kent League is by far the easiest and least stressful way for your club to do it's bit to ensure we continue to have a strong regional racing calendar.
The Leagues will carry out many of the admin tasks to ensure all events are set up correctly and legal as well as providing on hands support.
For 2022 we will also be providing cover at the event sign on point and finish line carrying out all the judging and results.
For new clubs and small clubs, organising through the leagues is an ideal to learn what's involved.

Surrey League and South East Road Race league (which will operate under the name of Kent Cycle Racing League) have joined forces for 2022, bringing South East riders an extensive and exciting calendar.
By running both leagues jointly, we can coordinate a fuller and easier workable league for all, that covers the entire region.
We’ll also be running both leagues through the mylaps transponder system, meaning riders can tap into all their results anytime

We have decided to return to the original name for the league. After the Winter Series the leagues races will be listed under Kent Cycle Racing League.
There's a few reasons for this. Firstly, with us now working closely on joint affiliations, we feel it makes more sense to have two leagues with a clearer identity to their name.
Secondly, and again for a clearer identity, we felt it made more sense when there is a Surrey Cycle Racing League and Sussex Cycle Racing League already operating to have our league reflect the same vibe and not confuse new riders to the sport.
Lastly we have found that many riders especially new ones, believe that the league is actually something to do with the British Cycling region as a whole.

SERRL Winter Series #2 Events - British Cycling
Road Racing in our region is facing a potential big problem. With the roads getting busier it has become harder to run races relying just on the goodwill of other road users to help keep the races safe for all.
British Cycling in conjunction with the police have introduced their accredited marshal scheme (AMS) to help keep the racing as safe as possible.
This scheme relies on a large volunteer base, and this is where the potential problem comes. With the scheme being so successful in reducing the risk, we need to run all races with AMS, so are constantly needing to increase our team of trained volunteers.
SERRL would like to do their bit to support the scheme and show their appreciation to these essential volunteers.
For 2022, every trained AMS volunteer will get free annual affiliation to the league as well as for every SERRL event they volunteer at, one free race entry for themselves (or a nominated rider if they don’t race) to a SERRL race.
So, if you want to be part of keeping our regional calendar strong, get in touch with SERRL at alandenman1966@gmail.com The region will be holding courses in January at various locations throughout the region.
