Road race convoy drivers

KCRL would like to start building a team of convoy drivers for the events to help ensure the safety of all.

There are various opportunities to drive in road race convoys. The different vehicles perform a range of tasks, including providing safety, or supporting riders and officials. It is important that all drivers understand and follow agreed guidelines to minimise risks to riders and the public.

Which roles involve driving in a road race convoy?

The list below highlights some of the driver roles which could be included in a regional road race.

· Lead car drivers

· Commissaire drivers

· Neutral service car drivers

· First aid drivers

· Broom wagon drivers

Why do we need driving guidelines?

Driving in a convoy can be exciting, but there are agreed expectations which drivers should follow for safe movement of the convoy and to minimise risk to competitors and spectators.  These guidelines are defined in British Cycling’s ConvoyCraft.

What is ConvoyCraft?

ConvoyCraft is a set of best-practice guidelines that detail the skills, awareness and understanding of road race convoy driving, providing an agreed and recognised level of driving standards across all British Cycling road race events.

KCRL will be organising some workshops this winter to get drivers ready for the 2022 season, so if fancy getting involved with this exciting role, contact us for more information. We offer very generous rates of expenses to cover your time and expense both at the events and travelling time.

Are you tech savvy?

Ever fancied learning the art of being a finish line judge?

We’re looking to increase our finish line judging team. There’s various aspects to this job that helps it all come together and ensure we provide professional and accurate results at our events.

  • Transponder System      Operator. We usually use MyLaps timing chips for events, so if you love      all the techy stuff, you’ll love this. We can provide you with full      training on how to use the system and ongoing support.
  • Finish Line Camera. We      always use a finish line camera to back up the data provided by the      transponder system.
  • Manual recording system.      The best fail-safe system has always been and remains to be the manual      recording system. Whatever potential hiccups you have with the various      tech systems, a pen, paper and stopwatch never fail. It’s not simple      though, there’s an art to it.

If you’re looking to either build up work experience in the events industry, put something back into the sport or just earn a little bit of cash, give us a shout, we’d be delighted to hear from you, and who knows, you might even have some fun!

If you fancy getting involved with us, we can offer very generous rates of expenses to cover your time and expense both at the events and travelling time.
